Social Responsibility Commission
The various ministries of the Social Responsibility Commission give witness to our parish’s response to our Lord’s call to proclaim the gospel vision by serving the needs of individuals and families, especially the poorest, and working with Church and community for justice, peace, and compassion.
Emergency Assistance
Our parish offers this outreach of financial assistance and referral to families deprived of life’s critical basic needs. Volunteers process in-office applications, and verify the needs of families requesting assistance.

Hospital, Nursing Home & Homebound Ministry
Visitation with caring hearts is the primary focus of this ministry. Volunteers are needed to visit the hospital and nursing home residents in our parish and also those parishioners who may be homebound due to illness or age.

Food Pantry
The parish provides a food pantry that serves the needs of parishioners as well as families in the community. Food drives are held monthly to stock our shelves with non-perishable items. Assistance is provided to qualified families after application and screening. Various opportunities are available for volunteers to help in the pantry.

Parish Blood Bank
Through United Blood Services and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital Blood Banks we sponsor three blood drives annually, which provide blood replacement credits to all parishioners during their time of need.

Bishop Ott Shelter Meals
Meals are prepared by volunteers and served at the Men’s Shelter on the 1st Tuesday of each month, and at the Women & Children’s Shelter on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Habitat for Humanity House
We participate with the Catholic Coalition in the construction of a Habitat Home each spring.

Disaster Relief Services
A comprehensive disaster response plan is maintained for the parish to be able to respond in the event of disaster, and to link with the Red Cross and Catholic Charities in times of community need; volunteers are needed in the areas of cleanup, transportation, meals, financial aid, housing, and shelter management.

Parents’ Night Out
An evening is provided semi-monthly for parents to have a worry-free time out knowing that their special needs children are being cared for by professionals who understand their needs. Volunteer opportunities exist for high school youth and adults.

Threads of Love "Littlest Angels" Ministry
This unique interdenominational ministry meets the needs of newborns and their families during times of crisis. They sew tiny clothing for premature, at risk, and infants who do not survive. This ministry functions in cooperation with other area churches and the NICU at Ochsner Medical Center. Volunteer opportunities are not exclusive to sewing.

Elizabeth Ministry
Based upon the scripture story of the Visitation (Luke 1:39-56) between Mary and Elizabeth, women of the parish reach out to other women during the childbearing years. Their primary goal is to build community with the families who have come to us for the baptism of their infants.

Community Outreach
Networking in the community gives us a broader sense of Church beyond the parish boundaries of St. Jean Vianney. We connect with the broader Church through our support annually for the St. Vincent de Paul Community Pharmacy & Clothing Stores, Catholic Community Services Refugee Resettlement Office, Connections for Life and others.

Bereavement Ministry
Teams of volunteers provide personal outreach to families of deceased parishioners with meals, a memorial cross, and an All Saint's Day Memorial Mass.

JustFaith Program
Based upon the principles of Catholic Social Teachings, JustFaith is an extensive thirty-week spiritual journey which includes readings, speakers, and immersion experiences.

Together Baton Rouge
Our parish is a member of a coalition of congregations and community institutions of the Greater Baton Rouge area called Together Baton Rouge. It is a grassroots orgainzation dedicated to a common cause: moving our city forward toward a higher quality of life for everyone through relationship building among members, and working towards a common call to justice.

Batahola Mission
As a sign of our solidarity with others in our Catholic faith, we offer prayer and financial support tot eh educational and cultural mission, Centro Cultural of Batahola Norte in Nicaragua.
